Ted update
« on: February 02, 2010, 08:26:40 pm »
Ted is doing so well, he's eating, begging, basking, swimming normally, seems to be normal ol ted again.

Still doesn't like the shots, but who would??? We have 8 more to go, and his treatment will be done.

He's such a little champ!

well, I had come home from being out of town for about a week and ted was swimming sideways, so the next morning we took him straight to the vet, he ended up having pnemonia, and now we are giving him shots every three days.

In turtles pnuemonia (respiratory infection / RI) is common for turtles housed improperly, in less than clean water or just those who were housed with multiple turtles before the owner acquired them. That's why we so seriously suggest NOT purchasing a turtle from a pet store or disreputable dealer.

Of course their can be other factors beyond the keeper's control or knowledge such as an air vent moving across the basking area and the owner is unaware or the electricity going out and the turtle getting too cold. There are as many causes for RI in turtles as there is for pneumonia or even catching a cold in humans.
