Hi I'm new
« on: March 02, 2010, 04:58:17 am »
Hi,

I am new here to the forum.  I had a turtle when I was younger and just now decided to get another one.  I came across your forum when I was trying to find a place to get my turtle from.  I don't want to buy from a pet store because I really want a hatchling.  I am 18 years old and live at home while I go to college.  I almost have my set up ready to go and when I do I will get my new turtle.  I am looking forward to learning more and making new friends.  As I have been reading posts on the forum I realized that you love pictures.  Unfortunately those are going to have to wait, one I have no turtle yet but the main reason is I don't have a camera.

:HTPwelcome:  We believe you will find HTP to be very informative about turtle care. We are here trying our very best to research products and environmental changes that directly effect our turtle's health in a more postive way. We at HTP want your turtles to live a very long happy and healthy life.

Great to have you with us, we really hope you do understand that turtles are not very social creatures and do much better by themselves.

 :HTPwelcome:

You are certainly starting the right way... by getting your tank setup right before getting a turtle!  Most of us did it backwards:  Turtle(s) first and then scrambling trying to get the correct and, more importantly, adequate setup for them!  We think you will find the best and most correct information here at HTP because, after all, it is... all abou the turtles   :turtle:

Would you describe your setup?  Maybe we could give you a few tips on your setup with an eye toward making sure you have the proper equipment?
I'm the boss of the turtles... really, I am!

They told me so.

Why are you laughing?

Thank you for all the words of welcome.  I will try to answer all the questions.  I have a 90 gallon tank, a uvb bulb, a regular household bulb for heat, a floating basking area, a tank heater and an air bubbler.  Oh I also have a filter but by reading the topics it doesn't seem big enough to do the job, it is just one that hangs over the side.  I am going to save up for a XP3 and AFTER I get that then I will save up for the turtle.  I want a western painted but I never see those here.  All I ever see is RES turtles here.

You may would like to try this link for a couple of pictures of western painted.

We realize there are places and people online or in pet stores that will give you information about turtles. That has cost many of us in the long run from either vet bills and or having to go out and spend even more money to get the correct equipment that will provide for a healthy turtle.  We here at HTP have spent years of research perfecting our set-ups to gain the most for the health of the turtle and at a price that can be kept within reason. A sick or injured turtle can and do cost us all a massive amount of money on vet bills, plus the time, heartache and all the effort involved in taking the turtle into see the vet.

At HTP you will find we are one big family spread across the earth. Most of the members here have been here for months, if not years and have devoted their time to this valuable research. We certainly welcome you to join in with us in learning how to improve the habitat, for not only your turtles but also to share that valuable information to save so many other concerned turtle owners.

I'm a newbie myself, so I can tell you first hand how wonderful it has been to find this forum! You're one smart cookie to get your tank set up BEFORE the turtle comes home.  Good luck and welcome!
