That's wonderful news that you found someone to take care of Pluty.   It's so hard to struggle to get the correct setup for just one turtle, so you made a very wise decision.  I  know it's hard to give up a loved pet, but you made the right decision for both of your turtles.

Where is your friend located?  A ten gallon tank is not a good idea to give them and I hope they don't think that's what Pluty can stay in.  Are they attempting to upgrade soon?

My wonderful Tony.. and our pets:
Jyra (cooter), Chief (cockatiel), Keeba (brownish mackerel tabby cat), Riley (black DSH kitten), Mo (Syrian Hamster) and a handful of fish.

 Yes I agree with everything Deanna said  I hope the new owner is able to get a bigger tank very soon and that Panky enjoys the increased space in your tank

Wow... that would be a tough call.  I don't know if I could make the decision on which to give up... Ted or Bill.  My head would probably explode.   :Dunno:  Not to say that wasn't the correct call if your friend is prepared to properly take care of Pluty.

Deanna is right... it's enough to try to get a correct setup for just one tank, let alone two.  We are gearing up to get another tank soon so we can split Bil and Ted up into their own tanks... knowing it will cost another $2000 for the proper setup and completely take over our living room.  The important thing is the tanks will be positioned so both Bill and Ted can watch TV...   :hystericallaughing:
I'm the boss of the turtles... really, I am!

They told me so.

Why are you laughing?

guys it was hard , believe me. i love panky a bit more cuz she stares at me and is always looking for me when im close to her. also if i put hands on water for some reason i had to she comes close. pluty just like to be away and hidden some where.

in any case, im already working on instructions about feeding, take care, and tank. like i said before i added this forum and htp site on a email exchange with the new owner so she can learn a lot. im open to help she in any case.

this night, they both seem to be non quite. panky seems to be like looking for pluty T_T (my guess). but looks a bit quite the next hour, may be panky goes to sleep finally.
according to my family pluty just looks sad on the small tank.

i feel like a villain.

DON'T feel like a villain. It's not only possible but likely that as they grew, Panky would dominate and even bully Pluty. That has most likely already been going on without you being able to tell since Pluty is hiding.

If the new owners will get an appropriate tank and setup, Pluty will be MUCH happier on his own! You can't imagine how many turtle owners have realized that their "hiding" turtles have come out of hiding once they no longer have to worry about being bullied! An un-subdued turtle develops SOOOOO much more of a personality!

You did a VERY good thing and made the tough decision to benefit Panky AND Pluty!!

i noticed some bully from panky to pluty.
panky used to swim pretty fast to eat the pellets pluty was going after. even when they where going to laid on a fake plant for sleep, panky used to get on top of pluty.
i saw once panky was on the basking area and plutty was going up too, panky moved to push (technically) pluty and he went on water againg.

thats the main reason i wanted them separated but i cant afford 2 setups. not space or money to afford now.
i know at this time my grandma or sister will call it "hey they are playing", but i know in the futer ill call it "hey they are killing each other", and that wasnt going to be fun at all.
sad for pluty, i know inmediatly new owner isnt going to put him as i had him but until he gets better lets just hope the new owner follows my advice and read the web and forum here, or at least ask me for suggestions.

This may get some negative feedback and I'd say you've read enough of my posts to know how much I advocate for larger tank sizes! But Pluty is better off in a small tank WITHOUT being bullied than in a larger tank where he must always be submissive! That isn't to say the new owners don't need to SERIOUSLY look into getting a larger tank! But a bullied turtle is so much more subject to disease from stress, not to mention the occasional nip from the other turtle - or worse! Pluty is in a MUCH better place!! Just keep encouraging the new keepers to get larger accommodations!

I just noticed this topic, don't know how I missed it before.  Don't feel bad.  You are doing the right thing.  Like Brenda said just keep the new owners updated about needing a new tank and give them our website information.  Hopefully they will upgrade his tank soon.  He is most likely reacting to being in a different enviroment, not a smaller tank.

Have the new owners taken Pluty yet?  When I separated my two turtles Moo wasn't happy at first but adjusted and thrived.  Moo was the one being bullied by Ro and now Moo is waaaaay bigger than Ro and way happier not being bullied for basking rights and food.
